Vietnam Has Imported 7.5 Million Tons of Steel Early This Year

According to Vietnam Steel Association: From January to April this year, Vietnam has imported 7.5 million tons of steel made by iron making industry mini blast furnace, including all kinds of steel raw materials and semi-finished steel. The import account increased by 48%, and the amount of non-alloy steel billets and finished products accounted for 90% of total imports.

Vice-Chairman of the Vietnam Steel Association said that even temporary tax were added for imported billets (23.3%) and wire rod (14.2%) since 22th March 2016, Vietnam still imported many billets and finished steel produced by steel melting furnace. The reason is that Vietnam steel companies have to import certain semi-finished steel, including hot rolled coil which Vietnam companies can not manufacture. That is why Vietnam has to import 8-9 million tons of steel by using ferronickel annually.
