Import Tariffs of Primary Aluminum in India

According to the officials from India’s National Aluminum Company that Indian aluminum producers are called upon to further increase import tariffs. They think the import tariffs of primary aluminum should increase from 2.5 to 10%, and scrap import tariffs should increase 2.5%.

In May, primary aluminum import tariffs was increased from 2.5% to 7.5% in India, but this is not enough to protect the domestic aluminum industry. 55% of its aluminum demand need to be meet through cheap imported aluminum used in iron and steel making. In addition, India’s domestic aluminum producers have been proposed for setting minimum import prices of primary aluminum for blast furnace stove operation and some aluminum products.
