Copper Production Increased 5.5% This Year in Zambia

Christopher Yaluma, Zambian Minister of Mines said that the country’s copper production used for high quality blast furnace this year is 750,000 tons, with an increase of 5.5% and it is expected to double the country’s copper production to 1.5 million tons in 2017. Zambian copper production used for blast furnace for steel was 711,515 tons in 2015. Zambia is the second largest copper producer in Africa.

The change of mining royalties sparked fears for mining sector in Zambia last year, and the new royalty policy was approved in February this year. Mining royalties changes will be based on the price of copper used for blast furnace gas of steel wire heat treatment furnace, Zambia government is making efforts to maintain the mine operations and restrictions unemployment.
